NASHVILLE, TN

From Chattanooga we drove
to Nashville and arrived about 5 PM. We checked into a Comfort Suites Motel and decided where to have dinner. We heard about an interesting restaurant called Monell’s where they serve family style. It sounded good, and regardless of not knowing the cost we went. It turned out to be another trip highlight. The restaurant was in a very charming house in a residential area across the street from a Baptist Church. They have tables for ten, and we were seated at a table with a family from Toronto, with 2 children, a young girl of about 8, and a young boy of about 10, who was there to play hockey in a tournament. That would not have been my choice of dinner companions, but it turned out to be interesting and enjoyable. The dinner was something else. They started us out with big bowls of broccoli salad, cucumber salad, and banana pudding. When we asked why they served the desert before the meal, the answer is “life is short, have desert first.” After the salads came a large bowl of southern fried chicken, smothered chicken, buttered parslied potatoes, Sweet potatoes with pecan topping, green beans, meatloaf, beef stroganoff, cornbread, rolls, iced tea, lemonade, and water. All the food was excellent and we had a very enjoyable dinner. Then came the surprise, the check. I was guessing about $25-$30 pp. It was………………………..$13.68 each!  We would go back in a heartbeat! The next day, Fri, we toured Gaylords Grand Ole Opry Hotel. This is the biggest non casino hotel in the country, 2850 rooms. There are 3 sections all under glass roofs with spectacular tropical gardens, waterfalls, rivers and tropical trees. That night we went to the Grand Ole Opry and saw a great country music show with Ray Price.
