DAY 140, SAT. OCT. 29, 2011
AM 34 DEGREES, FOG PM COOL AND SUNNY
DEP. FLORENCE 08:10 ARR. GRAND HARBOR 12:30
D 21 / 2503
Our planned sunrise departure was again delayed by early morning fog.The sun finally burned it off at the marina by 8AM and we got underway. The forecast called for patchy fog until 10AM and unfortunately, it was right. Just a few miles into the trip we were in it.Patchy fog.The kind where one minute you can’t see the bow, and the next you have 100’ of visibility giving you hope that it is about to clear, and then you can’t see the bow again.THANK God for GPS and Radar.Fortunately, tows do not run in the fog so the only thing we had to worry about was running aground, which is where the GPS & Radar were essential. We cruised very slowly and by 09:05 the last of the fog just disappeared into the warming air. The rest of the trip was uneventful and easy. When we arrived at GH we filled the tanks and were soon joined by the "SLANTY SHANTY." You will not believe this craft. Rather than retell the story you can read about it at www.wewillnotdrown.blogspot.com.
