DELAWARE BAY TO CAPE MAY, NJ

DAY 328: SUN. JUNE 10, 2012
DEP. DELAWARE CITY 07:30   ARR. CAPE MAY 1:48
D. 60.9sm / 5456.4
Concerns about how we would get off the dock in the fast flood current in the morning were unfounded.  The dock master told us what the best time was to get under way to have a fair current all the way to Cape May, and then helped us off.  We were tied starboard side to with the current pushing from astern.  He tied a line to the port bow, pushed the stern into the current, and held the bow until we were parallel to the shore, bow into the current.  From there it was an easy exit.  As planned, we had a fair current all the way down Delaware Bay.  The wind was calm and the waves were less than 1’.  We stayed out of the main shipping channel as there were several large ships inbound and outbound.  Since they are constrained by their draft, they are the privileged vessel and we keep out of the way.  By 1:10 we entered the Cape May Canal for the short trip to the Canyon Club Marina, where Rich Nicks, harbor host on Salt and Sand greeted us.  We later had a swim in the pool followed by a Looper gathering and adult beverages.  John and Mary on Passport, and John & Mary on Mary Francis were there a day before us.
