BALTIMORE MD TO DELAWARE CITY DE

DAY 327:  SAT. JUNE 9, 2012
DEP. BALT: 07:30    ARR. DELAWARE CITY,  3:30
D. 75.3sm / 5395.5

It was a beautiful trip up the northern part of the Chesapeake.  At 12:40 we entered the Chesapeake & Delaware (C&D) Canal.  There was a lot of boat traffic, mostly local fisherman, but a few cruisers as well.  We planned to tie up at the free town dock in Chesapeake City, which is about 5 miles into the canal, but there were a couple of sail boats there.  There was some room behind them for another boat, but not quite 40’.  They could have tightened up the space between them and made room for us but they wouldn’t move, so we decided to go on to Delaware City at the eastern end of the C&D. Just past the Chesapeake City Marina is the Summit North Marina.  This is where Evelyn & Sid bought their Mainship and where they started their Loop.  As we passed by, they officially completed their Loop and we stopped the boats and took celebratory pictures.  When we were at the end of the canal we decided to go for Cape May, but we quickly changed our minds when we saw how much the flood current was slowing us down.  We turned north and called the Delaware City marina for availability, and thankfully, they welcomed us with open arms.  The marina is on what used to be the old entrance to the canal.  It is relatively narrow, and the current is quite strong.  The dock master and his crew were very helpful in directing us in and helping us tie up.  Shortly after we tied up, Queen Kathleen arrived from Rock Hall MD.  Later, we went into town and bought a bottle of bubbly to celebrate Something Specials Loop closing, and then went out for dinner at Crabby Dicks.
