BACK ON THE BOAT, FAIRHOPE TO PENSACOLA

DAY 162, MON. DEC. 6, 2011
After a great 2 weeks at home with family, Joe returned to the boat with good friends Jim Mello from Westboro, Bob Barker, and Tom Noonan from Seacoast Shores.  We opened up the boat, went shopping to replenish supplies, and went out to dinner at Tamara’s for some more of that southern cooking, more steamed shrimp, crabs, and oysters.

We awoke early hoping to get a start at first light, but the fog made us reconsider.  At about 7:15 it looked like about 1 mile visibility, so we departed and set our course for the R 124 buoy 10 miles south, in the Gulf Intracoastal Water Way (GIWW).  Much to our chagrin, but no surprise, the fog worsened, but eventually cleared up as we approached the GIWW.  The trip took us through several bays, Wolf Bay, Perdido Bay, and Pensacola Bay, connected by several canals.  We passed a couple of tows, some dredges, a Coast Guard Buoy tender, and enjoyed the company of several Dolphins playing in our wake.  It’s a reall thrill to see these beautiful creatures cavorting along side of the Glory Days.  They appear to be having as much fun as we are.
